Nicola O. Goren, an 11-year veteran of the Corporation for National and Community Service, will lead the agency through a transition that will include laying a foundation for the incoming Administration’s service plans.

In an effort to help youth from disadvantaged backgrounds improve their chances for success in school and life, the Corporation for National and Community Service has awarded grants to three national organizations focused on engaging volunteers in promoting positive youth development.

The Corporation for National and Community Service today released a new report showing that community service in America’s schools has reached a new peak, with 68 percent of all K-12 schools offering or recognizing service opportunities for their students.

11/10/2008 Peace Corps Announces Top Volunteer-Producing States
Peace Corps Volunteers hail from all corners of the nation, bringing with them a desire to serve and build friendships around the globe. Today, Peace Corps Director Ronald A. Tschetter announced the annual top Volunteer-producing "Home States" results after data was recently released on the number of currently serving Volunteers from around the country.

10/31/2008 Peace Corps Honors American Indian Volunteers
In November, the Peace Corps honors the contributions of Volunteers of American Indian heritage serving around the world. Throughout the month, during National American Indian Heritage Month, the Peace Corps will join in celebrating the culture and traditions of the more than four million U.S. residents with American Indian and Alaska Native heritage.

10/31/2008 Peace Corps Master's International Partners with University of South Carolina
The Peace Corps recently welcomed the University of South Carolina (USC) as its newest Master's International (MI) partner school. USC joins more than 54 other institutions in offering the Master's International option to potential Peace Corps Volunteers.

10/30/2008 Peace Corps Fellows/USA Partners with Drew University
The Peace Corps welcomes Drew University as its newest Fellows/USA partner school. Drew’s program, housed in the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies, will grant successful Fellows master's degrees in teaching (MAT) with subject area concentrations available in secondary biology, chemistry, English, mathematics, social studies, and Spanish.

10/29/2008 Peace Corps Wins W3 Silver Award
The Peace Corps Challenge, an online game and educational tool was recently awarded a Silver Award from W3 Awards 2008. The game was judged by the International Academy of the Visual Arts (IAVA), and honored for its excellence and creativity.

10/28/2008 Secretary of the Interior Signs Order to Continue Take Pride in America
Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne today signed an order extending the authorization of Take Pride in America within the Department of the Interior through the year 2010. The program, designed to encourage volunteerism on public lands, had been set to expire on November 1, 2008.
